cedric, on your feet and earn your salary...

Can't get enuff Fats.

I've looked long and hard for Fats' "Christopher Columbus." I found a cover by a pretender (not bad on the keys, but the Fats' song mimicry was painful). You'll find Fats heself on Paschal's Playlist in the blogroll (Song #148). Sidney Bechet's "Viper Mad" right after is a revelation (ahem), too.

Thanks for the jivvin' jazz lunchtime matinee that wound from kerfuffle cakes and tangerines through cinnamon and now to honeysuckle on a jazz piano. Sweet, sweet, sweet!

And now I'm off to eliminate some allergens.

T: I love Fats, and several of my students have joined me in my admiration. Throw in Cab Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher" and we're all in classroom heaven.

And just what do you teach in this world of No Child Left Behind that you can get away with Fats and Cab in the classroom??? Music appreciation?

Teresa: I teach funk: pre-modern, postmodern, ultra-modern, primal modern. Funk. We're all left behind. And I have a wonderful sound and video system in the funky classroom, for the likes of Cab, Fats, and Sidney.
