return of the coffee poems

Mr. Baby off to spend the night with his best friend, Tina and I dipped into a nearby bookstore / coffee shop for some more collaborative napkin poems. Patina poems (paschal + tina = patina).

poem: in all the highlands

for Tina

It madders

the fugitive, nonstaining, mid-valued
dark
yearning in the rose lake
laque de garance
lacca di robbia
NR9
notoriously fugitive
rubia tinctorium
chemical cousins
for brighter violet
the queen asks pardon
for dulling
the lake
a perishable fiefdom
the maddening hue
biased more towards

purple as queen
gives her due
Lust, rosso corsa, Upsdell red
in all the highlands
Jane's coquelicot -
the most fashionable color -
in Bath
matrons purloining youth
tree friends
blue moons
hex triplets unsourced
ongoing vicissitudes
abbreviated consequence
heaven sent
basking in lizard presumption
on the coraline fence.
Evangeline plenty
fires the heart
engenders the outposts
claims - proudly -

the Marian dew.

shake, rattle, and renga...

By no means do I pretend anything more than a passing acquaintance with renga. Collaborative poetry, with one poet introducing the "hokku" (haiku) stanza, followed by a couplet with 7 syllables apiece. In this round, I wrote the five introductory 3-line stanzas, and Tina provided her awesome couplets.

never a rhyme

orange night blossoms
full suns and moons on the rise
fate's equal measure

storms may rage in galaxies
yet novas transcend supah

space available

face down in the mud
Leonidas spawns fury
mighty pit there, dude

gluttonous worms, united—
‘tis a feast beyond measure

elena & the boyz

seventh period
burnt brains collide merrily
visionary arts

alizarin crimson eyes
oil on canvas speak promise

trillions of 'em

presidential coins
gold tooth displayed, open-mouthed
icing on the cake

air particles and rabbits
crescendo is where it’s at

liposuction

botox in the spring
the doctor's got your gravy
manatees in bloom

Picking up pieces of you
I revel in leftovers
